HaLLOwEeN

Where did Halloween come from? The Celts lived about 2000 years ago in present day Ireland, UK, and northern France. Their new year was celebrated on November 1st. The Celts believed that on October 31st the world of the living and the world of the dead collided. They built huge sacred bonfires where they sacrificed crops and animals. During these events the Celts wore costumes. By A.D. 43 the Romans had taken over the Celts. The two celebrations combined and two different celebrations were formed. Feralia was was used to celebrate the passing of the dead. The second was to honor the roman goddess Pomona, goddess of the trees and fruit. Which is where the tradition of bobbing apples came from. European immigrants brought there Halloween traditions with them when they came to America. The first Halloween in America were public events held to celebrate the harvest. At these events there were ghost stories, people sang and danced. By 1846 Americans began dressing up and going door to door asking for food and money. By 1920's and 1930's Halloween became community centered. Parades and downtown parties became the norm. To Avoid the trick in trick-or-treat people began giving out small treats to children. In the present day people spend $6.9 billion annual. Making Halloween the second largest commercial Holiday in America. For Halloween this year I am going to take my little siblings trick-or-treating. He is going to dress up as a army man. He is wearing all camouflage and we have face paint. He also has a fake machine gun. My little sister is dressing as a punk rock star. We made her costume. We cut up tights and she is wearing a tutu and I bleached and spray painted a tank top. I also bought costume makeup and color hair spray. and I am going as a witch. I have a black dress and a witch hat. After Trick-or-treating I am going to my cousins wedding. Where she is having all of her guests dress up. I hope to have lots of fun...

BAYSHORE!

Bayshore being a D school is very disappointing in so many ways. I know that we are more than a D school. With all the talented and intelligent students that we have at Bayshore this grade does not even come close to what this letter grade should be. Our teachers and administrators work so hard each and everyday to help better this school and its student. To give them a D would seem almost a crime. I believe that Mr. Underhill tries hard to improve this grade and puts 100% effort into it. What I would suggest would to have the teachers do more practice tests. Not just give them to the students but go over them try and make it fun, make it into a game with rewards. Make sure the students want to make the good grade. Make FCAT week a fun week. Testing can be such a drag. At the end of the week have everyone that tested and have a pep rally or a movie in the auditorium. I believe that Bayshore has great potential and that this year we will rise beyond expectation and receive higher marks.

LOTF project.

The Lord of the Flies project came out fairly well. We could have made it better if would have used the technology we have available. We are prepared, we have our script and our costumes ready. We encountered many problems. There was very little class time when the entire group was all present. We were originally going to film the interview and make it more authentic but with time constraints and without the knowledge of how to do so we were unable to make it happen. The one thing that we could have done differently was have more contact outside of class.

What if?

What if I went deaf and blind? If i went deaf and blind my life would change incredibly. The world would not be the same. Thinking about this shows me all the things that I take for granted. To not be able to see a sunset or listen to my favorite song. Not to be able to see a movie or have a regular conversation. I would have to re-adapt to everything in life. I would have to learn to communicate in a different way. I would have to go to a special school, and not be able to keep my job. I would not be able to drive. It would be so difficult to go on with living, everything you know would be erased. I would have to relearn everything. The people in my life would change. The questions that arise are who would stay and who would go? Who and what would I loose? The strain that i would put on family would be very intense. Would the give up on me? Would I give up on myself? Taking all this into consideration I am so happy that I am healthy and have all my senses. It also puts into view all the things I take for granted in everyday life. So go on and ask yourself "what if?".

Challenges

Senior year is full of challenges. Some of the challenges that I believe I will have to overcome are getting a good GPA. Also getting everything ready for college, there are many decisions that have to be made.Another challenge that I will have to face is doing well on my ACT and SAT. I am planning on overcoming these challenges by doing good in class, keeping everything organized, pacing myself on what I need to get done, and believing in myself that i can do it. I will need to be more efficient with my school work. I will need to plan out my time well. Also i will have to study in order to achieve a good score on my tests. Although these challenges will be difficult to overcome i believe that i can do it.

My Advice

Dear Freshman,
The single most important piece of information that I can give you is DO NOT SKIP! I know the temptation is great, but do everything you can to stray away from this activity. Once you skip one time there will always be another and another. Before you know it you have horrible grades and a truancy officer knocking at your door. Another piece of information I give you is join a club or a sport, get involved in some way shape or form. Also pick and choose your friends wisely, this might seem a bit cliche, but in the long run it will help you immensely.Remember you are as low as the lowest person you associate yourself with. Last but not least have fun. I know, I know its school how are you suppose to have fun, but its High school its the best time of your life. Live it up, but be careful. Three more years and you will be done, it will go by faster than you can possible imagine. Good luck class of 2013!
Sincerely Ariana Hampton

Senior Year!

Wow, it seems that it has taken forever and a day to get here. Senior year, it just sounds exciting doesn't it? There has been many obstacles and numerous accomplishments, and it all has come down to this year, senior year.
There are some things that I would personally like to accomplish this year. I would like to maintain a honorable grade point average and receive good grades. I would like to get into college and obtain skills that will be required in college. Another thing I would like to accomplishment is to enjoy my senior year by participating in all of the senior activities.
With it being my senior year there are numerous things that I am looking forward to. I am looking forward to all the senior privileges. I am also looking forward the activities, such as both of the spirit weeks, prom, grad night, and my senior trip. Last but certainly not least I am looking forward to graduation.
Senioritis, I am going to try and avoid this as best as possible. I am also going to avoid getting into any sort of trouble in both school and at home. Detentions, Saturday school, and suspension theses are things that I am definitely going to try and avoid. I do not think that I will have much of a problem avoiding theses situations.
My goals for my senior year are of course the basics get good grades, get good enough SAT and ACT test scores, get into college, graduate. I also wish to acquire skills that will help me threw out college and my life.
